Grassroots Advocacy
The Minnesota Child Care Association (MCCA) has worked to develop a strong and effective government relations, grassroots and grasstops engagement program. This work included implementing a detailed grassroots plan that includes educating members on the importance of grassroots engagement as well as ways to connect with their elected officials. This plan featured a thoughtful grasstops strategy to engage the governor and leaders in the House and Senate as well as a committed lobbying presence at the Minnesota State Legislature.
Prior to COVID-19 shutdowns, MCCA held its first “Day at the Capitol,” an event that many organizations use to bring members face-to-face with legislators. This event resulted in securing new co-authors on existing MCCA bills and giving legislators an opportunity to hear the struggles that child care providers face directly from the passionate individuals who are on the ground working in the industry every day.
